Some traditions are older than the countries that hold them.
Indian folk art was never made for museums. It was painted onto village walls at harvest, drawn on floors at weddings, cast in brass for temple offerings.
Each tradition carries the memory of a specific place, a river, a forest, a devotion. When an artist stops painting, the memory goes with them.
